Modification of morphine analgesia in rats by adrenergic blocking agents.

چکیده
Analgesia was studied in rats as described by Gupta and Gai tonde (1). Rats were administered morphine 5 rug/kg intraperitoneally. For studying the modification of analgesic action by adrenergic blocking agents the same rats were used after 48-72 hours and were administered simultaneously morphine and the adrenergic blocking agent. Pronethalol and TolazoIine were used in doses of 15 mg and ID mgjkg respectively. Phenoxybenzamine was, however, used in two doses-5 mg and 15 rngjkg since no discernible effect was observed with the lower dose.

Effect of Spinal and Systemic Clonidine Administration on the Postoperative Analgesia in Morphine-dependent and Naive Rats
Post operative pain and its control remains one of the most important issues in the field of surgery and health care system. Formalin test has been used as a method for assessing pain and analgesia in rats. Systemic and spinally administered clonidine, an ?2-adrenergic agonist, is proved to enhance postoperative analgesia. It has also been shown that morphine-dependent rats experience more chr...

متن کاملDetermination of adrenergic and imidazoline receptor involvement in augmentation of morphine and oxycodone analgesia by clonidine and BMS182874.
BACKGROUND Numerous agents have been demonstrated to potentiate morphine analgesia, including clonidine (alpha(2)-adrenergic and I(1)-imidazoline receptor agonist) and BMS182874 (endothelin-A, ET(A,) receptor antagonist). ET has been shown to affect pharmacological actions of clonidine. The present study was conducted to determine whether alpha(2)-adrenergic and/or I(1)-imidazoline receptors ar...
متن کاملProstaglandins inhibit endogenous pain control mechanisms by blocking transmission at spinal noradrenergic synapses.
Spinal intrathecal injections of the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory analgesics (NSAIAs) indomethacin and acetylsalicylic acid, which inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, cause dose-dependent hypoalgesia in the rat. Intrathecal injections of prostaglandin-E2 (PGE2) produce dose-dependent hyperalgesia. To determine whether this action of prostaglandins on the central nervous system is mediated through...
متن کاملStudy of the Intraplantar Injection of Lidocaine and Morphine on Pain Perception and the Influence of Morphine Dependence and Withdrawal on Lidocaine-Induced Analgesia in Rats
Background: Morphine and lidocaine are known to influence the perception of pain. The present study sought to determine the influence of local administration of morphine on lidocaine-induced analgesia in morphine non-dependent (MND), morphine dependent (MD) and morphine withdrawal (MW) animals. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: Control, MND, MD and MW rats. Lidocai...
